DMPD Pal’s are hosting DMPD Bike Camp this June from the 19th-23rd from 8am-4pm where each day will begin and end at Pioneer Columbus Community Center (2100 SE 5th Street, Des Moines). Ages for this camp are from 11-15 and the cost is FREE. Pre-registration is required to be completed through Deb VanVelzen at 515-237-1391 or dmpdyouth@dmgov.org.
Requirements for camp are: have a bike with gears, have bike riding skills, wear proper athletic attire (no sandals), transportation to/from camp, good physical health and positive behaviors.
Fishing with the Fuzz! Come get hooked on fishing on Saturday, June 10th, from 10am-1pm. This is a free event for youth for ages 5-15, but an adult must accompany children. Fishing poles and bait provided and FREE hot dogs for lunch! Space is limited to 150 kiddos, so sign up as soon as possible. Use the QR code to register.
Fun with the Police! A DMPD community event where having too much fun isn’t a crime! There will be face painting, inflatables, first responders displays, best donut competition and more!
The Des Moines Police Activities League is presenting Youth Golf Camp for girls and boys, ages 7-17 from June 15, 16, 26, 27 at 12:30pm-3pm. Our Bookshelf-Virtual Literacy Program for Parents
Parents and Caregivers can join online to learn new activities and ideas to make reading fun and exciting for kiddos. After each session attended, families who participate will receive a free book. This is intended for parents and caregivers who have kiddos ages 3-6 yeas old. This will be on Thursday evenings in June (1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd) at 6:30pm on Zoom. Helping Parents Manage Common Behavior Problems: A Deeper Dive into Behavior Basics
This session will explain the role of behavioral function in behavioral assessments and treatments and describe the pros and cons of punishment and reinforcement. Participants will identify at least one “do” and “don’t” strategy that is based on behavioral function that can be recommended to families. Preschool Palooza 2023

West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) Preschool Programs invites children ages 2-6 and their grown-ups to Preschool Palooza, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2023. The fun and educational event connecting families with early WDMCS Preschool Programs and community resources will take place at the Valley Community Center, 4444 Fuller Rd, West Des Moines, IA 50265.
This free event is designed for children ages 2-6 and their grown-ups. Children will be able to play games, jump in an inflatable, listen to a story, explore a City of West Des Moines vehicle, and much more. Their grown-ups will be able to talk with WDMCS district staff and community partner organizations about preschool, kindergarten, and district and community resources.
