Painting in the Park! This is an hour long event for those with special needs and their families to paint a canvas in the park at Rosedale Rapids Playground in Fort Dodge on June 25th at 10:30-11:30am. All materials will be provided and for more information: https://facingautismfd.com/

Assistive Technology Workshop

On August 30th from 10am-4:30pm and again on August 31st from 10am-3pm, Dr. Therese Wilkommm will be hosting an Assistive Technology Maker Workshop! During this event, participants will be able to create over 5 assistive technology devices to support various tasks and limitations. The event will take place at Easter Seals Iowa (401 Northeast 66th Ave, DM 50313). You are invited to register to attend one or both days in person at 1-day at $40 or 2-days at $80 or both days virtually for $80! Register here and to learn more information!

Central Iowa Area Brain Injury Support Group

This support group is for survivors of brain injury and/or caregivers held the 3nd Monday of every month. This event will be at 6:00pm – 7:30pm.

A monthly support group for survivors of brain injury and/or caregivers held the 2nd Monday of the month. This event will be at 7:00pm – 8:30pm.

Baby Bloom

Pregnant or have a child under the age of 1 year? Thinking about starting a family? This FREE event is for you!
– Find out how to get free baby supplies, including diapers, car seats, formula, and more!
– Get access to resources like WIC, Hawki (low-cost or free health insurance), transportation and other support.
– Learn how to stay healthy before, during and after your pregnancy.
– Learn how to navigate your health and your baby’s health when talking to doctors or providers.
– Visit with a nurse. Get free iron and blood pressure checks. (For pregnant individuals)
– Enjoy fun family activities, music, food and prizes!

SPECIAL NEEDS EMS WEEK OPEN HOUSE

This open house is for individuals with autism, special needs or disabilities and their families. Activities have been
modified for those with special needs:

•Meet Ankeny first responders in a fun, safe and sensory friendly way.
•Families can explore a fire engine, police car and an ambulance and meet personnel on their terms, making future encounters less frightening.
•Escape from the Fire Safety trailer
•Tour the Fire Department
•Spray water from a fire hose
•Explore firefighters’ protective gear
•Make an emergency plan for your family
•Fire extinguisher and hands only CPR training available for family members
•Storytime
•Quiet and sensory friendly areas
•Meet Ankeny Police officers
•Learn about Project LOST with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office
•Other fire safety and educational activities

Birdhouse Painting and More/ Pintar Pajareras y Mas– Bilingual Event

Join us for an evening of birdhouse painting, poetry, and crafts. Young children should be accompanied by an adult. Everything will be bilingual! One birdhouse per family. Groups of five or more please reach out directly to emroberts@dmpl.org to make arrangements.
